Director John Huston, fresh from the success of his first feature The Maltese Falcon (1941), enlisted for active duty following the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the U.S. into World War II. He directed this controversially realistic documentary while embedded with the Army’s 143rd regiment of the 36th division in Italy. Another of Huston's war documentaries, Let There Be Light, looks at the psychological effects of war. It was rarely seen until yesterday, when it premiered online. Find out more about it on our blog.
