64GB, 32GB and 16GB Solid-State Cards Record up to AVC-Intra Class 200
Panasonic has begun shipping three sizes of its F series P2 cards, a new series of its solid-state recording media. The new cards can record up to AVC-Intra Class 200, the codec inside the yet-to-be-released AG-HPX600 P2 HD shoulder-mount camera announced at NAB that extends the bitrate to 226 Mbps for 1080/23.97p. The 64GB, 32GB and 16GB P2 cards (models AJ-P2E064FG, AJ-P2E032FG and AJ-P2E016FG) list for $730, $499 and $399, respectively.
Like each P2 series before it, the F series cards are backward-compatible with all other existing P2 camcorders and recorders, including AVC-Intra 100/50 and DVCPRO-HD/50/25. Panasonic says transfer speeds have been clocked at up to 1.2Gbps.
The company has also embedded the cards with a flash memory error correction backup, which it likens to a RAID system, to ensure reliable data retention.
