Filmmaker Nina Paley, an animator known as much for her fully Flash-animated first feature, Sita Sings the Blues, as for her struggle to distribute it, has just completed a new short film, This Land Is Mine, "a brief history of the land called Israel/Palestine/Canaan/the Levant." Says Paley on her blog, "I envisioned This Land Is Mine as the last scene of my potential-possible-maybe-feature film, Seder-Masochism, but it’s the first (and so far only) scene I’ve animated. As the Bible says, 'So the last will be first, and the first will be last.'" The short features her signature cut-paper style, anachronistic soundtrack (Andy Williams singing "The Exodus Song") and surprisingly funny stew of religion, nationalism and human impulses.
