Tougher Chassis and On-Board RAID Are Latest Improvements
Cache-A has started shipping a "next-generation" version of its Prime-Cache5 appliance for archiving to LTO-5 tape. Improvements include a new, tougher chassis and a RAID to speed up disk throughput.
The reinforced metal chassis is meant to make sure the unit holds up physically if it gets banged around on set, and the disk array includes two 2.5-inch 1 TB drives in a RAID 0 configuration.
Version 3.1 of Cache-A's software adds 64-bit processing, email notifications, queue management, and high-speed dubbing and tape-spanning via LTFS.
Interface options include dual Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 ports. The price remains the same: $7995.
