Combined with Virtual StudioLive Control Software, Will Help Users Tune their StudioLive Mixers for Every Room
PreSonus announced the PRM1 reference microphone as a match for the free Virtual StudioLive control software it provides for its StudioLive 24.4.2 and 16.4.2 digital mixers.
Connected to a mixer's Talkback input, the mic will allow users to view the frequency response characteristics of a given room. The Virtual StudioLive software will walk them through the process of analyzing the room's acoustics and configuring their mix to match.
The company says the PRM1 uses a 1/4-inch pre-polarized electret-condenser capsule with an omnidirectional polar-pattern and linear frequency response of 20Hz to 20 kHz. Its sensitivity is rated at -37 dB/Pa, EIN (A-weighted) at 26 dB, S/N ratio at 70 dB, dynamic range at 106 dB, and maximum SPL at 132 dB SPL. It has an all-metal chassis and comes packaged with clip, foam windscreen, and hard case.
The mic will likely be most useful to users who pack up their mixers and move them often from room to room, and need to deal quickly with the different conditions. But it's affordable enough that it might make sense to use even if your mixer stays put. Street price is expected to be $79.95 when it ships this month.
