Products Are Aimed at Digital Cinema, ENG, Pro Video Applications
The Vitec Group has bought Teradek (Irvine, CA), a maker of wireless video devices and platforms for HD acquisition and live brodcast.
Teradek's product line includes H.264 encoders, network bonding devices, and low-latency transmission systems, as well as a cloud-based remote-management platform for Teradek devices. The camera-top Teradek Cube encoder allows shots to be monitored live on set using iPads and iPhones; a Teradek decoder allows Cube to transmit live video back to a studio, to a video switcher, or another display device.
The company was founded in 2008 and currently employs about 60 people. "The team in Irvine are expected to stay with the Teradek business under Vitec Group ownership," Vitec said.
Teradek will become part of Vitec division Vitec Videocom, along with brands including Anton/Bauer, Litepanels, Oconnor, Sachtler, and Vinten.
"Whether it's a cinema director seeking an on-set monitoring system, an ENG journalist transmitting breaking news from a challenging environment, or a professional videographer streaming his client's ceremony, class or conference, Teradek's products will enable us to provide an affordable solution for our customers' wireless transmission requirements," said Vitec Videocom CEO Matt Danilowicz in a prepared statement.
