An Improved Timeline-Based FX Workflow and Support for Mac Pro and FCPX Widen Its Reach
Autodesk's latest version of Smoke, its Mac-based video editing and effects software, is available for the first time as a monthly, quarterly or annual subscription. Starting at $195 for a monthly rental and $1750 for the full year, Smoke 2015 features a host of new real-time performance improvements, a new 3D tracker and more support for Mac Pro and XML workflows moving to and from Final Cut Pro X.
This version of Smoke brings more effects to editors through enhanced VFX features accessible through the timeline. Now users can directly access the Action 3D compositing environment familiar to Flame users for segment-based effects as well as a brand new 3D tracker (below) that matches original camera moves for more believable composited layers, text or 3D objects.
On top of improved support for the new Mac Pro, Smoke 2015 is newly optimized for a number of other I/O regulars in the Mac universe like AJA and Blackmagic Thunderbolt-ready devices.
Smoke 2015 is expected to begin shipping on May 8.
