Portable Dolly for Slow, Consistent Camera Moves to Be Shown at Cine Gear Expo in June
Matthews Studio Equipment said it will be the exclusive distributor of the Pollysystem Polly Dolly in the Americas and Asia. The compact camera dolly, which is designed for cameras ranging in weight from DSLRs to ARRI Alexas, debuted at NAB and will be shown at Cine Gear Expo in Hollywood next month.
"The idea came up during a video production with lots of equipment and a large dolly system," said designer Thomas Kress, who developed the camera with parnter Hans-Peter Wiedemann, in a prepared statement. "I wished I had a professional system with the behavior of a large system in a compact package that could run without tracks and with stable and constant movements. I didn't want a motorized dolly because of the need for extra batteries, so I came up with the thought of a flywheel drive."
The Polly Dolly's steel flywheel allows the dolly to move slowly, smoothly, and consistently on flat ground, the company says. (A track can be used for uneven terrain.) The device measures 8x8x11 inches and weighs 15 pounds (7 kg). With the optional Polly Arm, the camera range increases to approximately 39 inches (1 m).
