An Advance Look at Screenings, Seminars, and Master Classes
If you missed NAB, you still have an opportunity to see a massive amount of camera gear and lighting all in one place at the upcoming Cine Gear Expo, to be held at The Studios at Paramount. The event begins Thursday, June 5, with screenings of feature films and shorts in competition, while the exhibit opens at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 6.
Free registration closes next Saturday, May 31, so sign up before then if you want to attend — or else you'll end up paying $25 cash to get in the door.
As usual, there's a whirlwind of Cine Gear activity scheduled, in addition to the Expo itself. Special screenings on Friday include a 4K projection of the documentary Samsara presented by Band Pro, with producer Mark Magidson in attendance for a Q&A, and a screening of A Million Ways to Die in the West, preceded by a panel discussion with "special guests," both of them in the Paramount Theater.
On Monday, Servicevision will use the theater for two screenings of "Walk in Barcelona," a seven-minute short showing off the company's forthcoming Scorpiolens 2x anamorphic lens series. (You can also watch it via the embedded video above.)
The seminar schedule includes cinematographer David Leitner comparing Sony's AXS-R5 raw recorder and Convergent Design's Odyssey 7Q for use on FS700 documentary shoots; Buddy Squires, ASC, discussing the ARRI Amira; a presentation on lighting and workflow for the Sony F55 by Daryn Okada, ASC, an examination of rental contracts and insurance certificates sponsored by Insurance West, and a VES session on digital and virtual production moderated by Richard Edlund, ASC. The full seminar schedule is available at the Cine Gear website.
In addition, three "Master Classes" are scheduled around town on June 8, and require a separate attendance fee ranging from $75 to $95. Visit the official Cine Gear listings for up-to-date information and to buy tickets.
