Sony Pictures Entertainment named Kristine Belson, most recently at DreamWorks Animation, the new president of Sony Pictures Animation (SPA).
SPA said that Belson will head development and production of original and franchise properties for the studio, reporting directly to Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chair Amy Pascal. "Kristine is a visionary who will make our animation studio a home where the animation industry's best talent can come and make the films they want to make," Pascal said in a prepared statement.
Among Belson's credits at DreamWorks since she joined the studio in 2005 were executive producer on How to Train Your Dragon and producer on The Croods, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.
“Ten years ago I was lucky enough to join DreamWorks Animation, where I developed a deep understanding and love of the artistry of animation," Belson said in a prepared statement. "I am now so charged up to be able to bring my experience and perspective to Sony Pictures Animation, to build on what they've begun and to reach new heights. I am deeply grateful to Amy, my first mentor, for giving me this incredible opportunity.”
