Collaboration Allows DNxHR Media to Be Shared Between NLEs on the Same System
Avid and Adobe are rivals when it comes to NLE software, but Avid says the two companies are working together to ensure that Adobe Premiere Pro CC is fully supported by Avid's shared-storage systems.
The announcement means that editing workstations running Premiere and Avid Media Composer can easily co-exist and share media in the same facility, the companies said. Specifically, Avid said Adobe has improved Premiere's performance "significantly" when it's working from an Avid ISIS 7500 or ISIS 5500 shared-storage system. Importantly, Adobe supports Avid's recently released DNxHR codec, which allows Avid users to work in higher-than-HD resolutions.
"With this news, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Media Composer can share Avid DNxHD or Avid DNxHR media and other open file types on the same infrastructure," said Adobe Director of Strategic Relations Simon Williams in a prepared statement. "Our large base of shared customers will undoubtedly realize significant workflow benefits from this collaboration."
Added Avid Senior Director of Product and Segment Marketing Ray Gilmartin, "One of the critical issues facing broadcasters and post-production facilities is the drag on productivity caused by having to manage and integrate different solutions from different vendors with different standards." Gilmartin said the collaboration is an example of the company's commitment to its "Avid Everywhere" promise of openness and flexibility.
