Sony announced a new 4K SxS memory player, the PMW-PZ1, designed to make it easier to review 4K (or HD) footage on set or in post-production.
The PZ1 plays 4K at frame rates ranging from 24p to 60p in XAVC Intra and Long. With a firmware update sometime after the unit ships in June, support for XAVC S-Long, MPEG HD and HD422 will be added, Sony said.
The ins and outs include one SxS card slot, one HDMI output, four 3G/HD-SDI outputs, left and right analog audio output, and a front panel color LCD. Two USB interfaces allow footage to be copied from SxS cards directly to external storage (with data verification and automatic creation of a CSV-format copy log) while a mouse is connected.
The PMW-PZ1 is expected to ship in June with a price "under $3,500," Sony said.
