A new audio post-production company, Benchmark Post, is launching in Burbank, with plans to occupy the former Todd-Soundelux offices on West Alameda this fall.
Benchmark Post founder Pedro Jimenez, a re-recording mixer who started up movie-trailer audio specialist Benchmark Sound Services in 2008, said the new company will open a 20,000-square-foot "state-of-the-art facility" with three mix stages and client editorial suites. The company said it will deploy Dolby Atmos, Barco Auro, Imax, and 4K video projection with both 2D and 3D capabilities. Benchmark Post will be an Avid-based shop, with dual-operator System 5 mix consoles.
"We are thrilled to re-open the doors of one of the industry's most iconic sound studios and look forward to welcoming fellow talent and clients with a new audio destination in the city of Burbank," Jimenez said in a prepared statement. The new offices are expected to open with a staff of around 10, with plans to increase to between 20 and 25 by spring 2016.
The company plans to serve feature films, television, documentaries, movie trailers, and foreign territories, specifically including Latin markets. Benchmark Sound Services will remain in place on the Universal lot.
