Reel FX co-founder Dale Carman has responded to the company's lawsuit filed against him and three former staffers, calling its allegations untrue.
The lawsuit accuses Carman and his co-defendants of improperly diverting business opportunities to his own company, Carman Industries, adding up to $2.6 million in revenue. In a response filing, the defendants said they had permission from Reel FX to pursue "economically risky" projects that didn't make sense for the larger company to take on, and that they went directly to Reel FX management when they succeeded at making that risky business profitable. Keith McCabe, Gary Banks, and Dan Ferguson were also named in the suit.
In a prepared statement, Carman flatly denied any wrongdoing. "The accusations made by the senior management at Reel FX are not true, and I can state without hesitation that my colleagues and I have done nothing wrong," he said. "I have worked with complete transparency with [Reel FX parent Bedrock Manufacturing owner] Tom Kartsotis and [Reel FX Chairman and CEO] Steve O'Brien for more than a decade. Those who know us are well aware of our integrity, honesty and good reputation in the industry for the past 23 years. We have exciting opportunities ahead, and our focus is on our new venture, creating groundbreaking VR experiences and doing more great creative work."
Carman's new operation is the Dallas studio Groove Jones, specializing in VR and experiential projects.
