Amimon announced the Connex Mini, a new lightweight drone-video transmission system building on the original Connex released last year.
The Connex Mini has been packed into an exceptionally tight form factor — it weighs 60g and measures 65mm by 45mm by 15mm. It delivers 1080p HD video at 60fps with no latency over a line-of-sight transmission range of 1600 feet (500 meters), Amimon said.
The receiver is just a little more bulky, weighing in at 140 grams and measuring 100mm by 71mm by 18mm. The Connex Mini can multicast to up to four receivers at once, and it works with Amimon's new iOS/Android control app. The MSRP is $1,299 and it is shipping now.
"Both products use the same technology and provide 1080p zero-latency wirless video," Amimon President and CEO Ram Ofir said at a press briefing introducing the Mini. "The high-end Connex was designed to provide a link at a range of up to 1,000 meters, which is 3,300 feet. The Connex Mini was designed to address a range of 500 meters, which is 1,600 feet, while providing additional features such as a small form factor and light weight for these small-drone applications."
"The Connex Mini might divert some sales from Connex," admitted David Shefler, VP of global sales and marketing. "The Connex is for more professional applications, and its suggested retail price is $1,599. People will find what fits for them and choose the right product."
While the original Connex was aimed at broadcast and "heavy-duty movie production," Ofir said, Target users of the Connex Mini include local newsgathering, inspection flights, wedding photography, and real-estate videography.
