Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC, received his 14th nomination for an ASC Award today for Sicario, as the American Society of Cinematographers announced its slate of nominees for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in a Theatrical Release. Also nominated are Janusz Kaminski for Bridge of Spies, Ed Lachman, ASC, for Carol, Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC, for The Revenant, and the formerly retired John Seale, ASC, ACS, who returned to sit behind the cameras on Mad Max: Fury Road.

It's hard to quibble with any of those nominees, but after reviving Ultra Panavision 70 for one more go-round in The Hateful Eight, Robert Richardson, ASC, might be feeling a little underappreciated by his peers. It will be interesting to see if Richardson gains any ground with the Academy when Oscar nominations are announced next week.
You can learn more about Ed Lachman's amazing work with color on Carol in our interview with the cinematographer from last month, and we ran down the gear used by the camera crew capturing the chaos of Fury Road back in September.
