Robust Camera-Support Arm Originally Debuted as a Kickstarter Project
The Infinity Arm is the latest Kickstarter project to find its way into commercial production, as Matthews Studio Equipment (MSE) announces that is bowing a refined version of director Sage Seb's heavy-duty Infinity Arm, originally funded through a 2014 Kickstarter campaign, at NAB.
"The minute we saw Seb's design, we knew it would be a perfect component to our camera-support equipment," said MSE VP of Product Management and Marketing Tyler Phillips in a prepared statement. "It is everything an arm should be. Our engineering department worked with Sage to refine the Infinity Arm and make it ready for introduction at NAB 2016."
The Infinity Arm, now built by MSE out of tool steel and aircraft aluminum, is designed to mount gear ranging in weight from a tiny GoPro rig to a more robust cinema camera. The articulated arms pivot on a 60-section rosette, and the ends connect to a variety of tips for quick interchange and interoperability.
Updates and comments at the project's Kickstarter page indicate the Infinity Arm had become a headache for its creators — as well as for increasingly impatient backers — as manufacturing problems delayed it long past a planned 2015 launch, though units apparently began shipping late in 2015.
