Former Digital Domain CEO Ed Ulbrich has been named president and general manager of Deluxe Visual Effects, reporting to Deluxe CEO John Wallace. Deluxe said Ulbrich will "unify global VFX operations" — including Method Studios and Iloura — for the company and is additionally in charge of building its Deluxe VR business.
"Method Studios and Iloura are doing extraordinary work in Los Angeles, Vancouver, New York and Australia, and there’s an enormous opportunity to unify the talented teams in other disciplines across Deluxe into a global VFX force — making the best use of different skill sets and the economics of different geographies to service clients on a much bigger scale," Ulbrich said in a prepared statement.
Ulbrich, a longtime Digital Domain executive who took the role of CEO after the company's 2012 bankruptcy filing, stepped down in mid-2013. He was a producer of Ender's Game, released in 2013, and a visual effects producer for the forthcoming Suicide Squad.
Recent and current projects at Deluxe's Method Studios include Captain America: Civil War, Dr. Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
