Alpha Animation, the new Los Angeles-based division of China's Alpha Group, named Alex Schwartz head of production.
Schwartz, formerly head of development at DreamWorks Animation, will oversee creative development and production on animated features created for worldwide distribution.
Parent company Alpha Group's businesses include theme parks as well as toys and other consumer products — and more than 10 animation studios — and it was an investor in the production of The Revenant and Assassin's Creed. The new venture is planning to develop original franchises as well as make new films from existing properties.
"Alex brings a wealth of experience, great talent relationships, and a proven ability to develop great ideas into great films," said Bob Bacon, Alpha Animation CEO. Schwartz's previous projects included How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek 4, and Puss in Boots. She is also attached as executive producer to a live-action remake of The Toxic Avenger being developed for Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon at Storyscape Entertainment.
