At the 2016 InterGeo conference in Hamburg, Intel has announced the first Intel-branded commercial drone, the Falcon 8+ V-form octocopter. The Falcon 8+ is an integrated system including the UAV, the Intel Cockpit controller, and the Intel Powerpack battery system.
Intel said the drone's autopilot is driven by three redundant sensors designed to compensate for electromagnetic fields, strong winds, and other factors. In fact, the whole system has failsafes in place, with redundancy across the electronic system, battery power, communications, and all sensors.
The Falcon 8+ replaces the previous AscTec Falcon 8, which was originally developed by Ascending Technologies, a German company purchased by Intel earlier this year.
The Falcon 8+ is set to be available for pre-order in North America starting in November, but pricing has not been announced.
