Comcast, Netflix Make a Deal
Netflix's content will be available for streaming over Comcast's Xfinity X1 set-top boxes at standard Netflix subscription rates starting later this month. It's an if-you-can't-beat-'em-join-em move from the pay-TV giant, which fought the upstart streaming service for years over bandwidth and net neutrality issues. No terms of the deal were announced, but presumably Comcast gets a share of new Netflix sign-up fees through its service. [Variety]

This $5 App Makes the Nintendo 3DS an Animation Platform
Looking for a new way to get creative on a small canvas? Animation guru Bob Sabiston, whose software was the basis of Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly, has developed an app for the Nintendo 3DS portable game system through his Flat Black Films studio. Butterfly: Inchworm Animation II's features include a built-in motion-graphics system, eight dynamic brushes, a timeline for keyframing actions, onionskinning, the ability to shoot video, time-lapse and stop-motion footage, and up to five layers of 3D depth. "Butterfly is easy to use but not dumbed-down," Sabiston says. "It's not really a game, and it's not for kids. It's for people who like to be creative in coffeeshops."
