Victoria Alonso, the executive vice president of physical production at Marvel Studios, will receive the Visual Effects Society's Visionary Award at the VES Awards ceremony set for February 7 at the Beverly Hilton.

Alonso oversees post-production and VFX for Marvel, and has executive producer credits on Marvel titles including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2Thor: RagnarökDoctor Strange, and Captain America: Civil War. She got started as a commercial VFX producer, then moved into feature films with a résumé as VFX producer that includes The CoreBig FishKingdom of Heaven and Iron Man, on which she also served as co-producer. 

The VES Visionary Award is meant to recognize individuals who use VFX "to foster imagination and ignite future discoveries by way of artistry, invention and groundbreaking work." 

“Victoria has elevated visual effects as an integral element of the art and business of moviemaking,” said VES Board Chair Mike Chambers in a prepared statement. "Her leadership in the industry is paving the way for future generations of artists and producers and she has helped redefine the profile of visual effects on a global scale."

Previous winners of the Visionary Award have included Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee and Syd Mead.
