No big surprises or snubs here. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has narrowed the field of competition for this year's VFX Oscar to just 20 titles on a list that includes no bombshells or oversights — just solid work on an array of films ranging from children's and YA book adaptations to venerable sci-fi franchises and superhero movies.
Next up is a winnowing of the list to just 10 films that will advance to the VFX bake-off in January. That list will be announced later in December. The final nominations will be announced the morning of Tuesday, January 24, in advance of the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, February 26.
