In a first, the Costume Designers Guild has nominated an animated film for an award.
Deborah Cook was nominated for Excellence in Fantasy Film for her work on Laika's stop-motion feature Kubo and the Two Strings. By policy, the category is meant to recognize "otherworldly costumes not based in reality." Kubo is the first animated film nominated in the 19-year history of the Costume Designers Guild awards.
Cook will be up against Alexandra Byrne (Doctor Strange), David Crossman and Glyn Dillion (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Colleen Atwood (nominated for both Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children).
