If the Día de Muertos CG imagery in this colorful new Pixar film rings a bell, it may be because you saw the similarly themed The Book of Life, a 2014 release from Texas-based Reel FX and 20th Century Fox Animation. Some animation fans have cried foul, claiming that Pixar’s film now plays as an imitation of the earlier release — but surely there’s enough imagination and wonder in the lore surrounding Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations to inspire more than one Hollywood-style adventure story.
