Sonnet Technologies said it began shipping its eGFX Breakaway Box, including a 350-watt power supply, for connecting compatible PCIe cards to workstations over Thunderbolt.
The eGFX Breakaway Box comes with a 40 Gbps USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port and supports compatible cards at up to full-length, full-height and double-width with chipsets including AMD’s Radeon R9 and RX cards and Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 7, 9, and 10 series, Titan X and XP, and Quadro GP100, P4000, P5000 and P6000 cards.
Also supported, Sonnet said, are Red’s Rocket-X and Avid’s Pro Tools HDX cards.
The eGFX Breakaway Box 550, which supports cards requiring up to 375 watts of power, is expected to ship in September, Sonnet said.
Good news: the Thunderbolt 3 cable is included.
