Holger Czukay, bassist and co-founder of the legendary German experimental rock band Can and a pioneer of early sampling techniques, has died in Weilerswist, near Cologne, at the age of 79. YouTube is full of his exploits with and without his old band; here’s a vintage clip of him supporting Can fans the Eurythmics in a 1981 TV performance promoting the band’s debut single “Never Gonna Cry Again.” Czukay is the mustachioed fella playing French horn from about 2:45 on.
