Legend 3D said it is opening a new 40,000-square-foot studio facility in Pune, India, next month. The move represents the company’s first expansion into the Asia Pacific region.
The new Legend India will be based on the Suzlon One Earth campus in Pune, which is located about a three-hour drive southeast from Mumbai.
The company estimated that it will hire 500 new employees there by the end of the year, giving it the biggest staff of Legend’s three locations. The company said it employs about 100 in Los Angeles and close to 400 in Toronto.
Legend said the new studio will provide 3D conversion, VFX and VR services for previs, post-production and animation projects in the region. The Pune studio will be linked to its Los Angeles and Toronto facilities via a secure digital pipeline, Legend said.
“As a client-focused organization, we are deeply committed to respecting the security of client IP, deadlines, budgets and excellence in visualization,” said Legend CEO Aidan Foley in a prepared statement announcing the new studio. “Planting our flag in India and implementing the Legend way will assure this consistent level of unparalleled creative output for the studios, networks, brands and agencies who have put their trust in us.”
The new studio is set to open November 13.
The move follows close on Legend 3D’s victory last month over rival Prime Focus in a patent fight dealing with stereo-conversion technology.
