Ten sequels and six remakes/adaptations are up for the VFX Oscar this year — along with a standalone World War II drama, a space station-set sci-fi horror flick, a Netflix original, and a Guillermo del Toro creature feature.
The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee chose 20 films for the preliminary shortlist, and will narrow the field to just 10 titles later this month. The final five films nominated for a VFX Oscar will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, in advance of the March 4 awards ceremony.
