The American Cinema Editors (ACE) announced its slate of nominees for the 2018 ACE Eddie Awards today.

There were no big surprises on the list, though fans of Blade Runner 2049 will be pleased to see that the editors’ group dismissed complaints out of some quarters (including the mouth of original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott) that the sci-fi sequel unfolded at too languorous a pace. Meanwhile, two of the four nominees for best-edited feature documentary, Cries from Syria and Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold, must be enjoying the ACE plaudits since they’re not found on the Academy’s current 15-title shortlist for the doc Oscar.

As usual in the TV categories, some nominees will be competing against themselves. Two separate episodes each of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Fargo were cited in their categories, and editor Skip Macdonald, ACE, has been nominated for two Better Call Saul episodes — “Chicanery” and “Witness,” the later of which was co-edited with Kelley Dixon, ACE.
