The new compact, lightweight Mini V-Lok battery is now available in the U.S. via Manios Digital & Film, said manufacturer Hawk-Woods.
Available in two different sizes, 100Wh and 150Wh, the new Mini V-Lok is designed as a smaller, flight-safe alternative to existing battery models. The VL-M100 weighs 490g (1.08 lbs.) and measures 10cm x 7cm and is 4.5cm thick. The more powerful VL-M150 is a little bit thicker, at 6.3cm, and weighs 607g (1.34 lbs.). For the sake of comparison, the company’s VL-150H comes in a traditional form factor measuring 15.4cm x 8.4cm and 6.4cm thick, weighing 1.19kg (2.62 lbs.).
Hawk-Woods said a maximum of two batteries can be held in carry-on luggage, for a total of 300Wh of power. When used with the VL-MCF1 double V-mount plate, two Mini V-Lok batteries can be attached to a camera to provide continuous power — and can be hot-swapped for continuous use. “Either battery can be swapped out without having to power down, so you never run out of power,” said Manios President Steve Manios Jr. in a prepared statement. “It works like stackable batteries, except that you don’t have to carry around the extra weight of a dead battery.”
The batteries are already available on the European market, where Paris-based reseller Next Shot is providing them to the production of director Luc Besson’s current project, Anna.
