Interdisciplinary artist Maria Ferreira seems to channel the abstract animation style of Stan Brakhage through the voluminous imagery distributed by Google Street View, Google Earth and the United States Geological Survey, which she builds into swirling, pulsing imagery in this beautiful but disturbing short. She says it grew from “a year-long investigation into how we connect with the material world through digital images.”
