Looking to add 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connectivity to your MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt 3? Sonnet says its new Solo 10G Thunderbolt 3 Edition adapter will do the job for less than $200.
The bus-powered $199 Solo 10G is compatible with any Mac (OS 10.13.4 or greater) or Windows 10 (64-bit v1709 or greater) computer with a Thunderbolt 3 port, allowing portable workstations to be connected to high-speed network storage and infrastructure via high-speed Ethernet. It comes with an RJ45 port for 10GbE connectivity via Cat 6 or 6A cabling, and an aluminum enclosure that works as a heat sink, meaning no fan is required. In addition to 10 GbE, the system supports NBASE-T, which can run data at speeds up to 5 Gbps on existing Cat 5e cables.
“While very affordable 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches have significantly reduced the cost of setting up 10GbE infrastructure and accelerated its adoption, the cost of Thunderbolt to 10GbE adapters has remained the same since introduction,” said Sonnet CEO Robert Farnsworth in a prepared statement.
The Solo 10G is now shipping from Sonnet Technologies.
