If you work as a video pro, you probably have a pretty good idea how different imaging sensors compare to each other in terms of size and shape. But if you ever have trouble visualizing the exact difference in form factor between, say, the Arri Alexa LF and the Canon C700 FF, or eight-perf VistaVision film and the Red Monstro 8K VV, you may want to download Phil’s Digital and Film Sensor Chart from cinematographer Phil Holland’s website.
Originally published in 2015, the chart was updated earlier this month. It also includes a sidebar listing the resolution and size of image circle for a range of widely used sensors from the likes of Arri, Canon, Panasonic, Red, Sony and more. (He even ticks a box to indicate whether a camera has the Netflix seal of approval.)
