Magewell announced a new hardware IP encoder, the Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus, which it said converts HDMI 2.0 sources into full-bandwidth NDI streams. The company described it as a “standalone, plug-and-play on-ramp” to networks using NewTek’s royalty-free NDI technology for media.
The Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus features input signal detection and DHCP network configuration, requiring no manual set-up to make HDMI signals available as NDI sources, Magewell said. It supports sources up to 4K UHD resolution at 60fps.
It can be powered over Ethernet or via an included adapter, and includes tally lights and PTZ camera control via NDI for camera-mounted use.
Magewell said the new device is just the first in a series that will also include converters that top out at 2K or HD resolution for applications that don’t require 4K compatibility.
Magewell also debuted its new Magewell Bridge software for NDI, which allows users of existing Magewell capture devices to convert source video into NDI streams. Video and audio from supported Magewell capture devices — including USB Capture and USB Capture Plus, Pro Capture PCIe cards and Eco Capture M.2 cards — is presented by the software as a live source for use by any other NDI-enabled systems on the network, the company said. Magewell Bridge supports any resolution and frame rate supported by the capture device, including UHD when available.
“While some new products, such as cameras, support NDI directly, many customers want to use their current equipment with NDI-compatible production software,” said Magewell CEO and CTO Nick Ma in a prepared statement. “The Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus and Magewell Bridge for NDI give users a choice of easy-to-use, cost-effective and reliable hardware or software solutions to connect their existing sources to NDI-enabled networks, systems and software.”
The Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus will retail for $999, a company rep said.
