London VFX house Union has named Lucy Cooper managing director and Simon Hughes creative director.
Cooper was formerly commercial and operations director and Hughes a visual effects supervisor at Union. Following their promotions, both will report to company founders Tim Caplan and Adam Gascoyne.
The promotions cap a year of expansion during which Union has nearly doubled its staff “from 51 to nearly 100” as it worked on projects including Annihilation, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the company said. It recently expanded into a new space on Rathbone Place in London.
“It’s been a very exciting year at Union working on some great projects and moving into our new space,” said Caplan in a prepared statement. “Both Lucy and Simon have been key to making this happen and these appointments are in recognition of the roles they’ve taken on in our growing team. Both Adam and I will continue to rely on them to help us run and scale the business whilst ensuring we remain the company that Union has always set out to be.”
