Magewell announced its second Pro Convert encoder, which converts SDI input signals at up to 4K UHD resolution to networked, low-latency NDI streams.
The Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus supports video at up to 4K resolution and up to 30fps with embedded audio over 6G-SDI. Automatic input format detection and DHCP network configuration should make it a plug-and-play device for putting output from SDI devices on a network, Magewell said.
In August, Magewell debuted the first encoder in the Pro Convert line, which did the same for HDMI inputs, and promised more to come, including converters designed for 1080p60 workflows instead of UHD.
“We received tremendous response to the launch of our first Pro Convert model at the IBC Show, and we’re excited to expand the product line with the new Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus,” said Magewell CEO and CTO Nick Ma. “Many video professionals would like to take advantage of the flexibility and efficiency of IP-based production, but have significant investments in SDI equipment such as cameras. Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus helps them maximize these investments by providing an easy-to-deploy and reliable bridge between their existing products and the thriving NDI ecosystem.”
More granular control of features and conversion settings can be enabled through browser access, including status monitoring, FPGA-based video processing and other advanced settings, Magewell said. Signal conversions, de-interlacing and other image processing are handled in hardware, maximizing resource availability over the network.
The device is compatible with industry-standard camera-mounting gear. When connected to a PTZ camera, for instance, the camera can be controlled via NDI and power can be supplied over Ethernet or by the included power adapter, the company explained.
