The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that the submission period for the next Scientific and Technical Awards program opens on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.
Companies and individuals planning to submit compelling scientific or technical achievements for consideration by the Academy have a deadline of July 30, 2019, to make their submissions. Shortly thereafter, the Academy will begin looking at claims of prior art or similar instances of the technology it is considering for Scientific and Technical Awards. Several months later, in June, 2020, the actual awards presentation takes place.
The decision was made last year to move the Scientific and Technical Awards out of Oscar season entirely and hand them out in summertime instead.
Remember when considering whether to make an entry that the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Award winners have typically been developed and put into use over a period of time, and are not tied to any specific awards year. For example, last year’s honorees included such industry standbys as the PIX System, the MoGraph toolset in Cinema 4D, and Adobe After Effects.
