HBO's Chernobyl, Netflix's The Crown and Unbelievable Are Most-Lauded Series
Netflix got an early Christmas present from the Golden Globes today, as the award-giving organization handed the streamer four out of 10 nominations for Best Motion Picture.
Netflix received no fewer than 17 feature-film nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including six for writer-director Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and five for director Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. The other Netflix movies seeing action at the Globes were Dolemite Is My Name and The Two Popes.
That makes Netflix the most-nominated film studio, handily leading runner-up Sony Pictures, which managed only nine nominations among Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, Little Women and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Sony Pictures Classics release Pain and Glory.
Netflix performed impressively on the television side, too, earning another 17 Golden Globe nominations for programs including The Crown, The Politician, Unbelievable, Russian Doll and The Kominsky Method. HBO was close behind, with 15 nominations.
Even baby streaming service Apple TV+ earned an invitation to the party with three nominations for its flagship series, The Morning Show.
