ABC will soon offer HD-quality streaming on its web site. You can go HERE to download their new player, currently in SD. Movie Networks is the company that developed the player. They say, “Move Play uses patent-pending Quantum Streaming to eliminate the negative effects of packet loss, latency, and Internet congestion to deliver the highest-quality video experience possible. As a core technology for delivering video content, Quantum Streaming significantly out-performs traditional streaming and progressive downloads.”
I took a look at the demo and it does look nice but so does Quicktime H.264. We’ll see how their high definition player looks when it is released this Summer.
You can see the reasoning. Networks want you to watch their shows on any available platform. Your computer works and so does your phone.
Next, movies in HD avaiable on-line. No need to buy an HD player.
Think of the possible future. You never, ever have to buy a disk. Just watch the movie streaming on-line. Instead of buying it, just pay for each viewing. Imagine EVERY movie, TV show and newscast ready at your fingertips. Press “Play”, pay a dollar and here comes the HD content. And with devices like Apple TV (which will play the 720p content from ABC) sending computer video to your HD TV set, you won’t need 1000 channels, just one. Yours.
